Due to the labour shortage in Canada in recent times, the country has begun the plan to pick and choose immigrants in 2023.
According to Sean Fraser, Canadian Immigration Minister, the nation is planning to be more tactical in selecting permanent residents in the coming year. And so, the nation is looking to prioritize people with certain skills and immigrants that will be a good fit to occupy positions in labour-starved regions.

The New Canadian Immigration Plan and Sectors of Preference
Canadian Visa Expert reported that the Canadian government is looking to bring in over 1.3 million permanent residents in the next three years. The targeted selection process, which will take effect in 2023, will help skilled immigrants with high-demand skills to more easily immigrate to Canada.
This proposed selection process will serve to complement the existing Express Entry program. The Express Entry system ranks immigrants based on different categories like education, language competencies, age, and work experience. The ranking helps to ensure that the most suitable candidates are picked to settle and secure employment in Canada.
According to Canadian Visa Expert, the new system will help to ensure that selected newcomers occupy the vacant jobs in Canada which are hard to fill. Some hard-to-fill sectors are engineering, health care, food services and construction.
Canadian Government and Its Effort to Address Labour Shortages
The Canadian government hopes to use the new selection process in 2023 to address the nation’s labour shortage and the inefficiencies of its immigration system. With this plan, employers suffering intense labour shortages are optimistic about securing suitable employees.
